Monumento a la Revolución de Mayo y la Independencia Argentina

In 1910, during the Centennial of the May Revolution, a cornerstone was laid at the Plaza de Mayo. It was going to be the first step in the construction of a monumental memorial for the May Revolution and the Independence of Argentina.

The architect, Gaetano Moretti, and the artist, Luigi Brizzolara, couldn't imagine the ordeal that awaited. Burocracy, last minute changes to the project and budget issues marred the works and slow it down to a crawl.

This book was edited by Moretti and Brizzolara as a public answer against the accusations of embezzlement and fraud they were receiving from the Argentinean press. On its pages we can witness the tribulations the duo suffered, the little work they manage to get done and the constant red tape they had to endure.

On its 100 pages we can find many pictures showing the works, the original project, the requested modifications and the artist atelier with his early work. An excellent source of information about this monument that should had crowned the Plaza de Mayo but never went beyond its foundations.
